When I got home I didn’t want to think about anything.  I just wanted to go online and play video games with my friends or endlessly surf the web.  It was a total waste of time.  Life seemed pretty bleak.  To be honest, I didn’t have any energy for anything else. 

Whether you are in the corporate world or not, you know what I am talking about.  The days seem to go by without you feeling in control, without your feeling relaxed.  You are stressed, being pulled in several directions by everyone, bosses, relationships and even friends.  When you are alone your mind is racing.  It’s either overwhelming you with hundreds of things you need to do or it’s beating you up with thoughts of failure.  Your head is spinning; so many thoughts, so many things that need to get done.

Even though I was stressed to the max I knew what would help.

Over the past five years I have helped thousands of people learn and understand meditation.

 

Ten long years of working in the corporate world turned me into a stressed out, goalless comfort junkie. I knew I had to do something and I totally knew what it was.  I had to meditate more.  

It wasn’t easy though.  Before, I would meditate every weekend, both Saturday and Sunday for
about a half hour each.  It helped then.  But it wouldn’t help now; not fully though.  I needed to
find a way to meditate every day.

Not an easy task, because the days were long as he**.  I didn’t have a spare moment to myself. 
It was sleep and work and that was it.

I started small by researching my journal entries from my meditation journals.  It became clear
that I needed to say the he** with working 13 hour days.  I needed to cut back and dedicate time
to myself.  After reading my journals I threw myself into meditating all the way.

I pored over a ton of different resources. After reading tons of articles, consulting with many
teachers in the field, I was able to develop a strategy that would not only help me, but other
people as well.

I began teaching a variety of people from my work and in my personal life, how to meditate. 
They grasped it quickly with my help and committed themselves to doing it every day.  
I definitely learned how to meditate daily.  It took a lot of trial and error though.

 

Whatever you do, avoid these 3 things (when learning how to meditate)!

 

There are 3 mistakes I constantly see people making that derail them and crush their chances
of finally learning how to meditate.

On my journey to relearning how to incorporate meditation back into my life I encountered each
one of these mistakes and was able to beat them. You will face each one of them on your journey.
But you HAVE TO OVERCOME them if you're going to reach your goal of growing an email list.

 

Mistake #1: Making an incredibly detailed plan

You go years on end, doing the same thing, until you reach a boiling point.  You assume that to get out
of the stress that has lasted years you need an equally huge plan.

Not so!

I’ve fallen into this trap more times than I can count. Originally I would make totally huge unrealistic
goals and spend weeks creating a plan to make them happen.

Then… 

As soon as I go out into the real world and try to execute my master plan, it falls apart immediately. 
 

Instead of creating a huge goal you need to focus on speed, consistency and momentum.
How quickly you begin to see results is one of the top indicators that you’ll succeed.

When you see a change,  you are invested in keeping that going.  You give up when you do something
and it doesn’t pan out.  That’s just second nature.

Ideas are fragile. 2 weeks from now you’re going to be much less excited about creating a calming
meditation habit than you are right now if you don’t see some results.

Capitalize on that excitement and build momentum by executing QUICKLY.

 

When you see the first seeds of habit taking root, that will generate more momentum and give you the
jump-start you need to stay focused and grow that habit into something that is a daily “non-negotiable”

Find a plan that is going to allow you to see results quickly.  Once you start to see results you are going to keep going.

 

Mistake #2: Becoming overwhelmed by information

There are millions of resources online for whatever you want to do, whether that is meditation
or sheep farming.  

If you have ever spent any time online (who hasn’t) you will find a resource for what you are
looking for.  But, like many people, you keep looking. 

  • Looking for another bit of info, lacking in the last resource, that makes sense.
  • Searching to find a more economical (free) resource.
  • Looking for the person who seems to have an edge over the competition
  • And honestly, looking for the simplest, easiest way to achieve what you want to do.

It’s natural to want to keep looking.  100% natural.  You always want to see if there is something
better.  It’s in our DNA.  But DNA doesn’t trump free will.

Here’s what happens;

You find something that looks good.  Then you try and poke holes in it.

  • It is too expensive
  • I could never do what they are asking
  • It’s too hard
  • They don’t really care if I succeed, they just want to sell.

And then you go on looking.

You take a piece of info that you think may work from one resource, if it’s free, and then look for
another.

Before long you have a collection of information to start you with a plan to do what you are
looking to do.

Once you have a collection of info you start sifting through it.

 

Then you find some info contradicts another, and before you know it, you are so
OVERWHELMED that you give up, wondering why you ever thought you could change.

If you didn’t become overwhelmed you made the mistake of blending the different ideas that you found.  
In those cases, it just didn’t work.  It’s like trying to bake a cake with four different recipes.

Find one trusted source of information that will teach you how to achieve your goal

Mistake #3: Trying to figure it out by yourself

Look... 

I get it.  You think you don’t need anyone else to help you succeed.  I was there myself a long time ago. 
I figured that I was a smart guy.  I had the entire internet at my disposal.  If I couldn’t figure out a way to
take back my life and calm down, then it couldn’t be done.

Oh, yeah, young and full of myself.

The problem is that I did need help, proud or not.

There is a great quote that helped me feel a little humbler,

 

“Your best thinking got you to where you are now”

 

Regardless of who you are, you need more.  You need accountability and direction from someone who
has been where you are trying to go.

Who is helping you? 

Who is holding you accountable?

Your answers to these questions are VITAL to reaching your goal
 

If your answer is “no one,” then stop and go get someone right now.

Get a mastermind group. Start one if you need to. 

Hire a coach. Get a mentor. 

You need help and you need accountability.

The Basics of Meditation

When people think of meditation they usually get overwhelmed.  Sometimes they don’t even get that
far because they think it is something beyond their ability.  

It’s not.

The basis for meditation is something you do every day: breathe.

The primary objective is to teach you an optimal way to breathe.  This method of breathing creates
physiological changes in your body.

This way of breathing produces “The Relaxation Response”

It’s nothing mystical.  It’s simple anatomy and biology, and I will explain it all.

The other misperception is that you must sit on the floor with your legs crossed on your thighs.  Sitting
in the “Lotus Position” is difficult for many people, myself included.

However, it is not the only way to sit.  Even laying down is an option.  This course will describe all the
options, especially the one that is most comfortable for you.

There are so many misconceptions that people have about the process of meditating, ones that stop
them before they even start.

By teaching you the basics you will come to understand the simplicity that meditation is.

Advanced Techniques of Meditation

Once you know the basics it will obviously be easier to move on to the parts of meditation that people
are eager to learn, the advanced techniques.
